How Many Solar Panels to Recharge a Power Station?

A 400W panel array refills a 1,000Wh power station in about one sunny day. A single 100W panel takes three to four days. The exact time depends on sun hours, panel angle and how much of the panel rating you actually get, so the numbers below are labelled estimates, not manufacturer ratings.
How the numbers work: wattages are typical ranges from manufacturer spec sheets and efficiency labels, so check the label on your own appliance. Runtimes are calculated, not lab-tested: usable energy = rated Wh × 0.85, divided by average watts.
⚡ Quick Answer
- Formula: days to refill = battery Wh ÷ (panel watts × sun hours × 0.75). The 0.75 is our assumption for real-world losses (heat, angle, cables, charging losses). It is not a manufacturer figure.
- Sun hours are not daylight hours. One sun hour means about 1,000 W per square meter of sunlight. A June day in much of the US is good, while in December much of the country gets 4 sun hours or less per day on average, according to the solar-electric.com explainer on NREL insolation maps.
- Each unit has a solar input cap. More panels than the cap will not charge it faster.
- Planning tip: design for your worst month, not your best.
🔌 Solar Input Limits of the Three Units
| Power station | Capacity | Max solar input (from maker listings) |
|---|---|---|
| EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus | 1,024Wh | 1,000W (2 × 500W inputs, 11 to 60V, 15A per input) |
| Jackery Explorer 1000 V2 | 1,070Wh | 400W (DC input, 16 to 60V, 10.5A; 21A / 400W max with both ports used) |
| Bluetti Elite 200 V2 | 2,073.6Wh | 1,000W (12 to 60V, 20A) |
Always check your own panel’s voltage against the unit’s voltage window before connecting, and follow the manual. Panel open-circuit voltage can be higher than the rated working voltage, especially in cold weather.
☀️ How Long to Refill From Empty
Estimates at 4 sun hours per day and 75% real-world output. A star (*) means the panel wattage is above that unit’s input cap, so we used the cap.
| Panel watts | Energy per day (4 sun hours) | EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus | Jackery Explorer 1000 V2 | Bluetti Elite 200 V2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 W | 300 Wh | 3.4 days | 3.6 days | 6.9 days |
| 200 W | 600 Wh | 1.7 days | 1.8 days | 3.5 days |
| 400 W | 1200 Wh | 0.9 days | 0.9 days | 1.7 days |
| 800 W | 2400 Wh | 0.4 days | 0.9 days* | 0.9 days |
These are calculated estimates, not tested results. More sun hours shorten them, and cloud or shade lengthens them. The charging without sun guide covers wall, car and generator charging for cloudy stretches.
🧊 Can Solar Keep a Fridge Running?
A 400W array on a sunny day is about the practical match for a 60 to 90 W average fridge draw, but not in poor light. Using the same 75% assumption:
| Sun hours per day | 400 W array makes per day | % of a 60 W fridge (1,440 Wh/day) | % of a 90 W fridge (2,160 Wh/day) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 600 Wh | 42% | 28% |
| 4 | 1200 Wh | 83% | 56% |
| 6 | 1800 Wh | 125% | 83% |
That is why most outage plans use solar to extend the battery, not to replace a full day’s grid power. If you want the fridge on solar for several days, you need more panels or a bigger battery, and you should keep the door shut and the load small. See the fridge power guide and the chest freezer guide for better load numbers.
Quick picks
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus (1,024Wh, 1,000W solar input): the fastest of the three to refill from panels. Check the current listing on EcoFlow's site.
Bluetti Elite 200 V2 (2,073.6Wh, 2,600W): longest runtime of the three in this guide. Check Bluetti Elite 200 V2 Price
Jackery Explorer 1000 V2 (1,070Wh, 1,500W, 3,000W surge): lighter and cheaper. Check Jackery Explorer 1000 V2 Price
🧭 Tips for More Solar Per Day
- Face panels toward the sun and keep them clear of shade, even a small shadow can cut output a lot.
- Place panels away from the unit with an extension cable, so the battery stays cool and in the shade.
- Match the voltage window before you wire panels in series.
- Clean the panels if dust or snow builds up.
- Keep a backup charge route for cloudy days (wall, car, generator).

✅ Bottom Line
For a roughly 1,000Wh power station, plan on 400W of panels if you want a daily refill in decent sun, and 200W if you can wait two days. Remember the unit’s input cap, and plan for the worst month.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How many solar panels do I need to charge a power station?
It depends on capacity and sun. At 4 sun hours and 75% real-world output, about 400W of panels refills a 1,000Wh unit in roughly a day, 200W in about two days, and 100W in three to four.
What is the max solar input for the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus?
Retailer and maker listings state 1,000W across two 500W inputs, with an 11 to 60V range and 15A per input.
What is the max solar input for the Jackery Explorer 1000 V2?
Listings state a 400W maximum across the two DC inputs, with a 16 to 60V working range at 10.5A per port.
What are peak sun hours?
A way of counting sunlight: one hour of about 1,000 W per square meter. Many US locations get fewer than 4 in December, so plan for your worst month.
Can I connect more panels than the input limit?
You can, but the unit will not charge faster than its cap, and you must keep panel voltage within the stated range. Follow your unit’s manual.
